A fever is the body's normal response to infection, and most clear up within a few days. But certain signs mean you should not wait it out at home.
See a doctor promptly if you have
A fever above 39°C, or any fever lasting more than three days. A stiff neck, confusion, or a severe headache. Difficulty breathing or chest pain. A rash that does not fade when pressed. Repeated vomiting or signs of dehydration. Or a fever in someone pregnant, elderly, or living with a condition like diabetes or sickle cell.
In the meantime
Rest, drink plenty of fluids, and you can use paracetamol as directed to bring the temperature down. Avoid guessing at antibiotics or antimalarials without a test.
If you are unsure, it is always safer to ask. You can walk in to Clinigram or, once Clinigram Online launches, speak to a doctor from your phone.
